In the wake of the European Patent Office’s 2024 report entitled :
The Role of European Universities in Patenting and Innovation – A
Study of Academic Inventions at the EPO, which states that the
number of patents filed and start-ups created by a diverse range of
research-intensive universities is high, this event will explore
the role academic innovation ecosystems could play in boosting the
EU Start-up and Scale-up Strategy.
Focusing on the example of the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA)’s
academic innovation cluster (pôle universitaire d’innovation), and
the contribution of its research and industrial partners, the event
will also address possible solutions to bridge the gap between
invention and commercialization, as pointed out in the Draghi
report : « According to the European Patent Office, only about
one-third of the patented inventions registered by European
universities or research institutions are commercially exploited.
