Maison Irène & Frédéric Joliot-Curie (Rue du Trône 100 2ème étage, 1050 - Bruxelles, Belgique)
Project Board Meeting
On February 3, 2025, the board of the European PIANOFORTE project
met at the Maison Irène et Frédéric Joliot-Curie in Brussels.
Launched in June 2022, this partnership aims to improve the
protection of the public, workers, patients, and the environment
from exposure to ionizing radiation from environmental,
occupational, and medical sources.
PIANOFORTE brings together 58 partners from 22 European Union
countries, as well as the United Kingdom and Norway. Coordinated by
the French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety
(IRSN), the project is co-financed by the European Union's EURATOM
program and the participating member states.
The objectives of PIANOFORTE include enhancing radiation protection
for patients, understanding the variability of individual responses
to ionizing radiation, studying the mechanisms involved in chronic
exposure to low doses of radiation, and strengthening anticipation
and resilience capacities in nuclear or radiological crisis
situations. The partnership also contributes to the implementation
of key European policies such as the European Cancer Plan, the
Green Pact for Growth, and the reduction of industrial and natural
risks.
Special emphasis is placed on involving all stakeholders
(authorities, civil society, radiation protection practitioners,
experts, etc.) in defining the scientific themes for the calls for
proposals. The goal is to translate this research into real impact
for strengthened radiation protection, better meeting the
expectations of the diverse actors in the field. PIANOFORTE also
aims to build bridges with research activities conducted at the
European level in "non-Euratom" domains, particularly in the health
sector.
