FRANCE UNIVERSITES, UNIVERSITE DE LILLE
21.10.2026
De 09h00 à 14h00
Maison Irène & Frédéric Joliot-Curie (Rue du Trône 100 2ème étage, 1050 - BRUXELLES, Belgique)
In 2022, as it emerged from the Covid crisis, the University of
Lille, situated in the North of France, underwent two major
transformations - it finalized its new, experimental governance
model, including devolved autonomy to its constituent components,
and it joinedNeurotechEU, the European University of Brain and
Technology, coordinated by Radboud University.
Through a kind of recursive loop, joining NeurotechEU has enabled
the University of Lille to create its own Institut Cerveau, Société
&Technologies, an interdisciplinary graduate programme bringing
various strands within the institution which would have
otherwiseremained separate.
The far-reaching effects of NeurotechEU membership on the
university go beyond neurotechnology, however, and have provided
aninspiration for other domains, such as a large project on
democracy driven by cognitive sciences in order to respond to
informationaldisruption.
Accordingly, can such new governance models provide a template for
the future development of alliances, in which some of the
memberorganisations might wish to retain more or less institutional
autonomy?
This event, organized by the Brussels office of France Universités
(the French rectors’ conference) on behalf of the University of
Lille, wishesto assess the extent to which possible overlaps
between the two governance systems may benefit the development of
different kinds ofhigher education institutions at local, national
and European levels.
